SUMMARY: Friend Report is about a girl named Yasaka Wataru. Wataru goes to a school full of elite, rich students, all of which have their own personal robots called "friends". Wataru is at the school on a scholarship and feels completely left out. She isn't rich, and she doesn't have her own friend. Not that she cares. One day in class Wataru's teacher assigns their next project. The theme features "your friend", aka your robot. The students are supposed to do reports on their robots. Wataru is worried that she won't be able to complete the assignment because she doesn't have a friend, but she's too embarrassed to tell anyone about it. However, when she gets home she gets a strange phone call about a friend for sale, reduced in price because it's defective. Eager to do her assignment, Wataru purchases the robot, only to find out it's not at all what she thought it would be.
